Diner gets starring role

Not many princes have eaten there but after tonight, more commoners might.

Friday, London’s own Prince Albert’s Diner will be featured on Food Network Canada’s You Gotta Eat Here!

The show, which follows funny man, Mario Catucci’s country-wide journey in search of the most mouth watering comfort food, visited the burger staple in 2010 to try out its famous Wally Burger.

The handmade patty, topped with freshly sizzled bacon and a smothering of peanut butter has been a hit since they first started selling it, says co-owner Bill Spigos.

“Once people come in and try it, they’ll love it,” said Spigos. “My mom makes all the burgers. They’re all homemade every day. She won’t even tell me the secret.”

The coverage of the downtown diner is not the first time the Food Network has been in the area though. The network has covered several spots frequented by foodies in Stratford, including the Chocolate Trail, a self-guided tour that takes sweets lovers to some of the area’s best chocolate shops. Wortley Village eatery, Relish, was also featured on the show last month.

Still, Spigos was thrilled for the network’s interest in the 16-year-old diner.

“It was exciting to have the whole professional film crew there. It’s a lot different from your ‘Cable-13′ coverage,” he said. “Filming from eight in the morning to eight at night for five or six minutes of airtime…it was good.”

The show will air tonight at 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
